A conference to commemorate the well-known Persian polymath Sheikh Bahaee (1532-1610) will be held in Mashhad, Khorasan Razavi province from December 24-25.
Speaking in a press conference on Sunday, secretary of the event Mohammad Hossein Safakhah said that the conference will highlight the thoughts of the great polymath and revive his specific research methods.
It also seeks to revive national and Islamic identity, and introduce Islamic luminaries as models for the youth, IRNA reported.
“Over 180 articles have been submitted to the secretariat of the congress, of which 78 were selected for presentation at the event,“ he said.
He added that 45 articles will be offered in specialized workshops and the rest will be published in scientific journals.
Since the congress coincides with the 60th founding anniversary of UNESCO Office in Iran, a message by the director general of UNESCO will be read out at the event.
Commenting on future programs, Safakhah said that Isfahan province will host the next year edition of the conference to be attended by 60 foreign guests from 16 nations.
He added that two international seminars on Sheikh Bahaee are scheduled for 2009 in Beirut and Paris.
Sheikh Bahaee is one of the exceptional scholars of Islamic world who was well-versed in various sciences including mathematics, philosophy, literature, astronomy and history.
