Father of modern Persian painting, the late Jalil Ziapour, will be commemorated at Tehran’s Mah-e Mehr Gallery on Tuesday.
According to Mehr News Agency, prominent artists Alireza Sami-Azar, Ebrahim Ja’fari, Mehdi Hosseini, and Abbas Mashhadizadeh are among the participating guests.
A documentary featuring interviews with poet and literary critic Javad Mojabi and Ziapour’s widow on the character and position of the artist is to be screened at the event.
In addition, six remaining works by Ziapour will be put on display at the gallery.
Jalil Ziapour (1920-1999) was a painter, researcher, university instructor and writer. He is known as a pioneer modernist painter in Iran. He had also carried out extensive research on Iran’s anthropology, folklore, traditional costumes and decorative designs in different regions of the country.
During his years of artistic career, Ziapour delivered over 80 lectures, presented over 70 articles, authored 28 books, and painted 40 paintings.
His paintings are famous for their original Persian themes, simple figures and unique style of painting.
